California Association of Port Authorities Names Kristine A. Zortman President

Updated: Nov 14, 2023

The Port of Redwood City has announced that Executive Director, Kristine A. Zortman, was named the President of California Association of Port Authorities (CAPA) this month. She will serve a term of two years effective immediately, with Mario Cordero, Port of Long Beach Executive Director, as Vice President.

“It is a privilege to accept this role. I look forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead that will help our ports continue to serve as vital engines of commerce, sustainability and efficiency in the California economy and beyond,” said Zortman.

Zortman served the past two years as Vice President under President Danny Wan, Executive Director for the Port of Oakland. During their time in leadership, CAPA helped secure $1.3 billion in funding for ports to build a more efficient supply chain from the California State Transportation Agency and $27 million in grant funds from the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) for port data system development.

In her new role as President, Zortman will serve as the voice for California’s 11 major deepwater ports that are widely recognized for their environmental stewardship and sustainable operations.

Since its founding in 1940, CAPA has remained dedicated to its mission of advocating and advancing public policy objectives of the Ports at all levels of government by educating state and federal policy makers on port operations while also advancing the best interests of the maritime community.

CAPA also maintains formal agreements on behalf of its member ports with the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) and provides regular communications with the FMC and other national interests.
