Fun Fact: The United States has more than 300 ports overseen by states, counties, municipalities and private corporations.

This month, the Port of Redwood City is buzzing with activity. From celebrating the integral role of California ports in global trade to inspiring young minds with hands-on marine science adventures, there is something for everyone to enjoy in Silicon Valley.

California Association of Port Authorities (CAPA) and ports statewide celebrate California Ports Day in February to reflect on policies that maintain and invest in new technologies to strengthen global trade. The 2025 theme of California Ports Day is “Powering California’s Future,” encouraging state ports to discover how innovative operations power a prosperous maritime industry.

While statewide ports are celebrating this month, the San Francisco Bay Marine Science Institute (MSI) is helping our youth become marine life experts. Through MSI’s February marine science camp, young ocean explorers will dive into the wonders of the San Francisco Bay marine ecosystem through hands-on activities.

At the beginning of the month, we invited community members to enhance our landscape.  In partnership with CityTrees, Port staff and volunteers planted new trees along the waterfront to beautify our landscape and preserve the local ecosystem.
